The Problem With Intolerance

Liberalists, feminists, and other "ists" have long pinned many, many things on Christians and other groups they dislike to make them look like the big, bad wolves. One of these things is intolerance. So, according to them, I am a big, bad, intolerant wolf. It can be difficult to find the words to counter this. Thank God for someone like Chuck Colson.
I suppose if I were called intolerant, the accuser must be fairly confident in their own perfect tolerance of everything. AH-HA! That's the first mistake. They are intolerant of my supposed intolerance! Personally, I don't think it is right nor logical to accept everything. It may be necessary to tolerate a large, talkative aunt who spits a lot at Christmas time. It may be necessary to tolerate a quiz or exam that culd get you into a high school. It may be necessary to tolerate the up-chicking of a very small child, or the ramblings of a very old relative. But it will never be right to tolerate the murders of thousands of innocent people as in the Sept. 11 attacks, or the indecent actions of a fellow student, or the ridiculing of a close friend. Therefore, it seems that true tolerance is knowing what should, and shouldn't, be tolerated, and accepting or disparaging the things accordingly. I am in no way suggesting that people become intolerant to the point of violence. You should not confuse the two, intolerance and bigotry. Therefore, being insulted with "intolerant" is empty and meaningless to me. If anything, I take it as a complinment to my good judgement.
