I could answer some of your questions.

I know that love is a most complex, yet simple thing any human on this earth has yet to perfect. I find it to be a complete act based on selfishness.

And when I say selfish, I say that in a good light.

There are acts that we perform in order to make our mate happy. We give them presents. We happily make dinner for them. We share time, secrets, a bed.
Thus anything that makes them happy (will hopefully) make you happy.

Or in better terms (because in some cases what makes them happy, won't always make you happy), what makes you happy is to have a happy relationship.

But anyway, for your boyfriend.

It is possible to fall in love with someone at a glance, there have been cases. But if you're feeling iffy about it and he doesn't portray the signs of someone who completely understands you, who will put up with you no matter what...then he's not in love with you.
He's smitten by you...but not in love.

But that's ok. Anyone/everyone in relationships need to build a foundation. And if he completely skips this part, then your relationship won't last. Both members need to get to know each other sooner or later. It's very good practice to become friends first, lovers later.
(not saying you two should break up. There are couples who are each other's best friend, even through their courting period.)

Love is truly strange, simple, and as complex as the brain itself. True love is never easy. There will always be obstacles in the way, tasks to conquer, and a shoulder to cry on.
If you think something isn't right, then it's best if you do some investigating to see if your instincts are true. Always try to understand where your emotions are coming from before going on tangents, best of all try to have them understand YOU. You need your respect (and so do they).

But best of all, never entrust those you don't trust with your feelings about others. Sometimes that best friend of your's is nothing but a lowly schemer.
Always be wary of those, trust your instincts.

I hope that helped.
