Do Babies Really Need Newborn Clothes?
You might have heard this before from relatives, friends, or online baby forums: don't buy a lot of newborn-size baby clothes, because they either won't fit or your baby will outgrow them in a week. But is this advice accurate? In my experience, not at all--not even close.
Our baby was born a pretty average 7 lb 9 oz. We did have a selection of newborn-sized outfits on hand. What we learned, though, was that there was quite a variety in actual size when it comes to clothes labeled "newborn".
Gerber brand, we found, were the smallest. Carters were in the middle. Some miscellanous brands were larger--some quite a bit. But in any case, it took our son a month to out-grow even the smallest onesies. Some of the larger "newborn" outfits will continue to fit for weeks to come. And he's ten pounds now.
So I am going to declare this myth busted. Don't buy the hype that your baby will quickly fit into his 0-3 outfits. Do buy enough newborn clothes--you definitely don't want to be short-handed after a long day of spit-up or diaper leaks!

We definitely did need to buy newborn baby clothes. Our LO was born almost on time (3 days early) and there is no way he could've fit into a bigger size. They do grow quick though.
