| I'm 15 going on 16 in a December. I've had about 90% of BPD symptoms since I was around 12 (When I was 12 the school nurse thought it was depression but after researching BPD for 2 years or so I noticed I wasn't "depressed" for months, rather a range to a few minutes to a day or so.) I have these crazy mood swings which make me distance myself from people so they won't have to deal with them and I have a horrible time coping with just about everything. Now after all of that and everything else I'm not mentioning why do doctors and what not feel the need to avoid diagnosing teens like myself with BPD? I understand we're still adolescents and our personalities aren't fully developed but I've been showing symptoms for quite some time. | |

| I think you can get a diagnosis if the symptoms persist for 2 years. I'm not entirely certain about this, but i guess its worth looking into :) | |

| i think they don't write it down cause you'll have a harder time getting a job when you get older. but just because you don't have it on a paper doesn't mean you don't really have it. | |

Thanks. But I even though my symptoms have persist for quite some time and I'm pretty sure that I have BPD my mom would refuse any of it. In the 6th grade my P.E. had seen my marks and told the school therapist who told my momand when I got home that day she yelled at me. She said I was just going through a phase and even now she still says my symptoms are just for attention -_-". I really can't do anything either way. |

You mother might be in disbelief that you might, tbh i'd prob the same, i wouldn't be able to believe it. But anyways, from what i read it's not a phase, does your mother know how long you've been this way? Maybe that would convince her. Failing that, i guess you could just wait for 18 for an expert to look into it. I hate this rule thing too, i myself am 17 in December and have experienced my problems for eight months, so i have to wait :( But whatever you do i wish you the best of luck with it :) |

| Honestly I think she has BPD as well. She is so quite be anger and I actually think she passed it on to me. She knows I still cut myself because the number of marks have increased but she denies those as well. I tend to hide any emotion from her or walk away from any situation that causes me to go through any episode so maybe she doesn't know the problem is still there. I asked her for therapy last year and she at first denied that I needed it because she "was such a good parent" and I was being "cruel" about her emotions. Then a few months later she agreed and never made an appointment. Now I'm under a lot of stress and have been having chest pains. I think it's anxiety. | |
