Riley sits alone at lunch She scratches bad words into the floor And laughs at how stupid the other kids are Riley doesn’t talk Words strangle her until she screams Until her throat throbs and bleeds Riley sees things feels things She wants to scratch out her eyes Rip up her heart so she can’t see can’t feel anything Riley watches stars She drinks in rays of light As clouds cast shadows over her life Riley pretends she’s a princess Her castle is the never-ending sky A place the blades can’t bite her skin Riley tries to fight To keep her head held high But the world holds her down Riley can’t escape Chains wrap around her wrists And knots tie up her brain Riley sits alone at lunch She doesn’t talk or feel Watching stars is for princesses She can't fight anymore Can't escape |
