| Having a diagnosis is the first step toward treating a condition. Were you diagnosed by a psychologist? I would point out, too, that when you look around and see people around you who seem so normal and happy, just know that everyone has their flaws, and everyone is battling some inner demons, regardless of how it appears on the outside. So getting a diagnosis for your own issue isn't such a big deal, but it is a step in the right direction. | |

| Justdiagnosed, I think that's a great question and one I have thought about quite a lot. I think that the disorder does have some positive points. Firstly, having the disorder generally equates to being a friendly, warm and gregarious person. These are all positive qualities. AND it also generally means you have good social skills (even though HPDs tend to use them to manipulate people). The characteristics of the disorder aren't in themselves negative, its just that HPDs tend to have disordered motivations behind the behaviours. If you get to the motivations, think them through and work on the deeper reasons for your actions, then you can improve. | |

nicole, if you were previously covered you should have the option to continue the same coverage under COBRA. But you have to act fast, because the window to sign up with COBRA is very short (one month?). Your step-dad should have gotten paperwork about it from his former employer. You could also try eHealthInsurance.. I am getting a plan from there. Just look into the details about the plans they offer to make sure they cover what you need. Maybe one day we'll have universal health insurance in this country and not have to worry about this stuff. |

I've been diagnosed with this personality type awhile back. How can I manage this so that I dont drive everyone around me bonkers? I believe my husband a Narcissistic type personality. So the combination of these isn't good. any advice would be greatly appreciated. |

| I've been married for 15 years and have 3 children. It's been a very rocky marriage and at this very moment it's teetering on the edge of a cliff. My wife was just diagnosed with HPD and some Borderline traits. I want to continue our marriage primarily for our children. I don't know right now what my wife really wants. Can anyone make any recomendations for a book or other helpful resource? | |

| Whenever i make a new friend i ask them to take the personality disorder test. Almost all of them are highly histrionic, like me..lol...and we get along great and have lots of fun. we dont think its a disorder, we think its a gift. P.S. most of them are musicians.. | |

dethkitn. that's hilarious. i should do that, too. and i've compared the symptoms to people around me, and i've noticed that most of them do have HPD. they're all actors/actresses and artists, too. when i read your comment, it made me laugh. |

| I was just dignosed as histrionic and symptoms of borderline. I had a tough time but I was so grateful for actually knowing because it explains a lot. Now, I am focusing on awareness. What has helped for me is having a loving support team that gives me solid feedback of love and accountability. | |

| I really appreciate these positive thoughts on histrionics. I am relatively happy with the way I am but I can see that I have a need for attention and can tend to be manipulative. What kind of therapy is provided for this disorder? talk therapy? cognitive therapy? | |
