You know how they say that if you want to get over something or even someone, you can write it down and then burn it in order to let it go? Well, why not do that here? If you are fearful of a particular symptom or situation, put it here and resolve to "let it go" when you press the submit button. |

| Worth a try... my most recent issue has been with muscle twitching. It seemed to come out of nowhere mostly in my legs and feet. I found a website called AboutBFS which was a big help in getting me to realize a lot of people experience this and its not MS or ALS. So I am resolving to let those fears go.. | |

| This morning I was driving into work and felt my chest constrict a little and like I couldn't take a deep breath. I put up a mental stop sign and realized that I had been thinking of a few things on my way in that were causing me anxiety. I took good, deep breaths from my stomach, and the feelings instantly subsided! | |

I can't believe how this hypochondria works. I met a customer the other day that had obviously been through chemo and her left breast had been removed. She told me that her left breast started growing bigger than the other, so much in fact that she joked with people that she was going to have to get a special bra. I didn't get any more details other than that it was that type of breast cancer that you seldom hear about that is an inflammation of the breast tissue rather than the infamous lump. That was 2 days ago, I have decided to go back to school and finish up my degree, and now I am awake because I swear I have more heft and general mass in one breast over another! I also read this book at the same time where a woman received a wrong diagnosis from her doctor and died from breast cancer that had metastasized after he dismissed her concerns over a tingly sensation in her breasts (her wrong diagnosis went on for 5 years). Now I can not sleep and my mind is filled with these sick obsessed thoughts that I can only surmise are a result of my fear of going back to school (I registered today - my otherwise routine day was filed with paperwork). I write this not only for sharing, but to ask, is it "normal" for a woman to experience more sensations perhaps in one breast over another?? My left side is my active side, so to speak. I never get anything out of my right. I will keep an eye on this of course, and if it gets worse, I will bite the bullet and see the doctor. But you know how it is when you need answers NOW for peace of mind, or you OBSESS.... God help me, I was starting to do so well. This is an ongoing battle...... |

To everyone: I believe hypochondriasis may be a result of fear/anxiety, or a lack of control in your life.. It would help if you start attending to other concerns in your life that needs more attending to.. It's the minds response on daily anxious events in our lives. That way, we become more focused on ourselves, than the other problems that have to be fixed.. We have more control over ourselves, than others, so we displace this anxiety to ourselves.. And oh.. try getting over the guiLt.. Try and reflect what I'm trying to say here.. =) |

| i'm 22 and i'm suffering from health anxiety. it all started when i had a termination last november. Then i had bleeding between my periods about the time when all the info about jade goody came out. i immediately thought i had cervical cancer and started having panic attacks, This in turn led to me feeling like i constantly needed to empty my bowels so thought i had bowel cancer. meanwhile my periods returned to normal. for a while around my wedding my anxiety faded as i had something to focus on. now about 6 weeks ago it came back in the form of needing to urinate all the time.even though i am not conciously panicking (however am constantly thinking about weeing!) i now think i have ovarian cancer because it comes and goesand i read somewhere that you have to watch if the symptoms come back more than 12 times in a month. I know how stupid it sounds but can not get it out of my head i'm waiting to see a coucillor but is taking ages and is affecting my relationship with my husband and little boy! as i can't seem to enjoy things with them and that also gets me down! just wondering if any one else has this problem? | |

lauz23, there are a lot of other things that can cause some of those symptoms, including anxiety itself. Cancer is highly unlikely, especially at your age. To see for yourself, go to this link, select a type of cancer in the menu on the left, then scroll down to the link that shows incidence statistics for the UK population. On that page you'll find a graph showing how common that type of cancer is by age. You will see that ovarian and bowel cancer are incredibly rare at age 22, practically non-existent. You are worrying about them for no reason! Cervical cancer peaks in the 30s. At age 22 it effects only 3 per 100,000 people. This, too, is very rare. But if it gives you peace of mind, you should consider the HPV vaccine. |

| Hi SONUIN, the first thing I would say is cancer at age 28 is very rare. Couple that fact with the negative tests, and it is a very good bet you don't have cancer. Stress, however, is a more common and more likely cause of many of your symptoms. It can cause havok on the body. Are you still losing weight? What advice did the doctor give? | |
