Who are you, where are you from?
My name is James and I'm from your average suburban town in Northern New Jersey. My age? Well, let's just say I'm in college. Actually, I'm a computer engineer major at Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. It's freakin' hard work here, and because of that, I can't update my pages as much as I'd like. : /
Are you into- Satanism? Body art? Drugs? Vampires? Goth-style clothing?
No, no, no, no, and no.
About Satanism- I am Christian by default, although I haven't been to church in quite a while. I do believe in God, maybe not the Christian concept of God though. My feelings toward God are very well summed up in this ninterpretation (first one after the Reznor quote). I do, however, have many objections with most, if not all of the organized religions. They are a collection of traditions and rituals passed down over the years that originated from man-made interpretations of the Bible. Religion is flawed.
About body piercings/tattoos- I don't need 'em, I don't want 'em. I can "express myself" in ways that don't scar my body. I find that stuff quite unattractive. =P
About drugs- Sorry but that's one way I'm not gonna mess myself up. I don't want to be addicted to anything.. drugs are giving up control. Drugs are something you resort to. There's nothing glamorous about a junkie..
About Vampires- (laughing) No, sorry, next question...
About Goths- I'm not into all that- "ohhh look at me, I'm so damn depressed. I wanna die and I hate everybody." Okay, I'm not saying that all Goths are like that..but I'm not into any of that "darkness", dressing in all black, burning incense-type stuff. It just isn't me.
But how can you not be satanic and still listen to Marilyn Manson?
This is a stupid question that comes from stupid people. Marilyn Manson is an artist. He made a very good album with satanic ideas in it. I have this remarkable ability to listen to music objectively. Many people don't seem to have this ability. I talked to a kid once who said he wouldn't listen to (\/) (\/) becuase it would mess him up. Okay fine, go on with your ignorant life then. Music doesn't control you. It is there for you to experience. It may alter your perceptions on the world around you, but that's a benefit. Good music will "wake you up, shake you up, break the structure up." -Zack de la Rocha.
Why did you want to make a site about nine inch nails?
Nine Inch Nails means more to me than I can express. The Downward Spiral is my favorite album of all time. The lyrics, the emotions.. it's real. Also, Reznor is a one-man act. His talent is undeniable. He makes a personal connection with his true fans. I'm sick of all the common nin pages on the net with lyrics, pictures, tour dates, and nothing else. So I made a page with the aspect of NIN that I'm interested in. And here you are. Thank me later. heh heh. I remember searching the web for nin-stuff that went beyond just pics, midis, etc. and anything of value was nearly impossible to find. So I wanted to make a site that contained the kind of stuff that I was always searching for.
You don't sound like a true NIN fan to me. You have no bootlegs, you don't dress in black, you don't talk endlessly about how everything sucks, etc, etc.
Well I may not sound like a typical NIN fan to you, but I'm not looking for anyone's approval. It's pointless to say that everything sucks (even if it does). I'm just sick of hearing the complaining, so I don't want to add to it. The only way you can be a true NIN fan is if you listen to Trent's music and you get it. There's no other way to explain it. Like, read this story that can be found on my Discussions page. This is an example of a person who gets it. And she doesn't exactly sound like your stereotypical nin fan to me. But then again, I don't think many people who stereotype NIN fans would be at this site..
What is your favorite NIN album?
Well it's hard to decide. On any given day, it'll be something different. Maybe my favorite album won't even be a NIN album. I can't really say which is my favorite, but if I had to list, say, my top 5 favorite albums, based on artistic merit and overall appeal, I'd list them as follows (it changes all the time):
The Downward Spiral : Nine Inch Nails
Antichrist Superstar : Marilyn Manson
Korn : Korn
Opiate : Tool
Ænima : Tool
How can I contact you?
Actually, I'm fairly active in the nin community on the net. On message boards, I go by the name 4° or by my real name, James. I'm known by other names as well, but they aren't nin-related. Click here to go to this site's message board, which I check usually once a day. Also, sometimes I hang out in the music lobbies on Yahoo chat under Four_Degreez. I prefer not to converse through e-mail, however. I'm antisocial that way. ;)
Why don't you update your site more often???
I wish I could!!! Like I said, this school is really tough and it's a damn lot of work. I barely have free time. Plus, with my current setup, I can only update on weekdays. Hopefully, over the summer I'll have more time to run this site.
Anyway, the bottom line is, I began this site for myself. I didn't really have high expectations for it. But it began to grow, and people began to come. Now, I do have high expectations for it. This site is built off of contributions from other NIN fans out there. I am proud to be able to provide this forum for the sharing of ideas on Nine Inch Nails.
